There are a host of things you can do to treat baby eczema. You will likely find that no one single treatment is able to give him satisfactory relief
from the skin problem. However, you will also likely find that once you put together the right baby eczema treatment cocktail that you will find what it takes to help him
get comfortable, and keep him relaxed.
Breastfeed him.
It is important that you breast feed your baby if he has eczema or is highly at risk to get it.
When I say highly at risk, I mean if there are atopic illnesses running in his family breast milk will help him to avoid becoming sick, as well as set a foundation for a
healthy life for him. If there are no atopic illnesses, and he is a healthy baby breastfeeding is still a wise method you can use to make sure that he stays
healthy.
There are some vital functions that breast milk does for a baby. For at least 6 - 9 months of his new life a baby has deficiencies that expose him to
health risks that breastfeeding will help him to overcome. When he is born his intestines are not yet able to stop the flow of allergy containing proteins contained in his
food from passing into his bloodstream. When he breastfeeds his mothers' milk contains the ingredients that form a barrier on the walls of the intestines to protect him
from this weakness. Without the breast milk, he is more susceptible to a whole host of unnecessary sicknesses.
Do not use vacuum cleaners that blow dust
around in the air
Next to pollen, dust mites are the leading cause of allergies in human beings. Even though he is small your baby is still an attraction to the
dust mite and the allergies they want to spread. While not the most effective and primary method of getting rid of dust mites, an important treatment you want to use
for them when treating eczema is to give regard to what types of vacuum cleaners you use in your house.
You want to use a vacuum cleaner that will not
blow dust around your house, or the area you are trying to sterilize from the dust mite. You will not see the dust being blown around so you will have to get an
appreciation of how your vacuum cleaner works. It has a lot to do with the type of filter or bag that is being used. You want to use bags and filters that are heavier
and more durable so that it is harder for dust to get out. You want to make sure that you never open your vacuum cleaner indoors to change the bag, this should
always be an outdoor task. You may also then want to use a vacuum cleaner that uses a HEPA filter.
Damp dust
In the effort to keep airborne dust
to a minimum, you will also want to dust with damp cloths or sponges. Instead of trying to wipe up something that is dry and loose, you will have better control and
more efficiency if you were cleaning up something that is pastier from the water binding everything together.
Treat his bed for dust mites
If your child
has atopic eczema, you can almost bet the house that dust mites will be the primary cause of his eczema treatment problems. What you want to do is treat his bed for
dust mites. You do this by encasing the bed in a Gore-Tex covering. Box springs, mattresses, pillows and duvets can all be covered to provide the greatest protection
from dust mites that you can provide inside your house.
The alternative to this is to use a different type of mattress that repel dust mites on their own without
the need for coverings. The final analysis is, whether you cover the bed, or use dust mite resistant mattresses by treating his bed for dust mites you will be making the
primary adjustment necessary to reduce the frequency and severity of eczema flare ups that your child will experience.
Put clothes in freezer overnight/ wash
in high temp water
Dust mites will want to live in your child's clothing for the same reasons that they want to live in his bed. These places are an abundant
source of food. Regular washing will not kill dust mites. To use washing to get them out of clothing you need to use wash water with very high temperatures, and
wash them for about an hour in boiling water. If you can do this that is good, but there will be many that will find doing this a problem for practical reasons. A way
around this is to put your babies' clothes in the freezer overnight before they are washed. This will get the dust mites out of his clothes and once they are gone they
can be washed with no problem.
